tala does tv: the new girl and pan am
Oct. 10th, 2011 03:47 pmBecause one of the perks of being at home is the fact that I can filch stuff from my brother, I spent most of today watching new TV shows. (It also doesn't help that my friends are all at work, so I have nothing to do, LOL.) In particular, I watched FOX's The New Girl, starring Zooey Deschanel, and ABC's Pan Am, with Christina Ricci, Kelli Garner, Margot Robbie, and Karine Vanasse. Since these shows are fairly new, I figured I should watch them with a grain of salt.

a problem with river
Oct. 3rd, 2011 12:26 amSo. We're talking about the wedding of River Song.
Okay, first of all, I don't like River Song as a character. I like Alex Kingston, and I have nothing against the actress, and I like the way she portrays River to a certain degree, but I do not like the way River Song is written. I think she got the raw end of the deal when it came to dealing with the Doctor, and I think that it's unfair for her to be manipulated both as a child and as an adult. And I think that it's a major character flaw that we never actually feel what she feels for the Doctor - and this "love" that she has is her main motivation for accompanying the Doctor as a (potential) companion.
( Here be spoilers for Season 6 of Doctor Who )

Playing In The Shallows
Nov. 12th, 2010 04:17 pmEver noticed that I'm only inspired by episodes when there's no Hannah involved? But far be it for me to be mean to everyone's favorite (ahem) blonde reporter, here's my breakdown and thoughts on the latest Bones episode, "The Shallow in the Deep".
( "Now, don't be so hasty." )
So what did you think of the episode?
(Again, F/L, I apologize for spamming your Inbox with fandom musings. Do carry on with your lives.)

( "we're the glue that holds this whole clattery operation together" )
Soooooooo… comments? Your own thoughts?
PS - Sorry people on my FL who have no idea what I'm talking about. Simply carry on with your lives. :)

Please Come Home
Jan. 1st, 2009 11:24 amI've been pondering about how to write about New Year 2009. With the number of resolutions and whatnots going around on the Internet, especially on blogs and other social networking sites, I didn't want to copy but at the same time, I wanted to write about something meaningful, something important to me and to you.
So here it goes.
Let me tell you a story:
My friend Anabel Bosch was taken to the Makati Medical Hospital late afternoon on 1 January 2009, unconscious, and was diagnosed with a massive aneurysm in her brain, rendering her in a vegetable state. Doctors had to operate on her immediately, but there's only a 20% chance of survival from the kind of aneurysm she has, and an even slimmer chance of regaining all her functions.
Anabel is an artist, a poet of the highest caliber, a mother to a 12-year-old young lady who is both bane and boon of her existence, a wise woman, a friend. I have never known anyone who has the same kind of spirit and strength that she has. I have admired her ever since I met her and read her cards, and I have continued to admire her in her stories and in the stories of others. I am sure there are more people who can tell you how wonderful she is and how articulate and ballsy and amazing this woman is, and I would like to add my little voice to that.
As of this writing, Anabel has around six hours of surgery left (she entered the OR around early evening, maybe seven or eight o'clock). Right now, what she needs most are your prayers, but if you want to do something concrete, you can donate blood at the Makati Medical Center, where she is currently registered, or you can get in touch with Regman Hernandez at 0917-5215325 or Ginny Mata at 0917-5296133 to inquire how you can help Anabel.
Please, please come home to us, Bel.
