I had a weird sense of deja vu reading your reply, LOL. :) But thank you for reading!

This pissed me off so much, because like the Doctor said he would never want the universe to suffer if he could help it.

I always thought that was the whole crux of the Doctor's reasons for traveling - to see the universe, and to protect it. I mean, I'm pretty sure Classic!Who viewers can name more examples, but to me what stands out is when Nine is asked by the Dalek Emperor, "Killer or coward?" and he responds with "Coward. Every time." I think that exchange speaks a lot about what the Doctor stands for and what his values are with regards to the integrity of the universe.
